TABLA

The Tabla is a Wolof Sufi ceremonial drum, played mainly at night time religous services in groups of 5 or more in various pitches. They are closed at the bottom and are played with two thick wood sticks. This is a large drum, about 24" in diameter and the same tall, carved from a huge dinba log. This tabla has steel rings and rope tuning. Weight, 47 lbs.

Tabla are very rare outside of Senegal and the Gambia, due in part to their weight and expense to ship, and their spiritual nature.
